Orexart is privileged to re-present a selection of some of the extraordinary and powerful work Philippa Blair produced during the late nineties and early noughties in the studio she made with husband John Porter, in Venice California. At the time, she was exhibiting regularly alongside contemporary American abstractionists in museum and gallery exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York. This was a particularly happy and productive period for Philippa, and we are delighted to share some of these important works with a New Zealand audience for the first time.
The exhibition is accompanied by a small publication including an essay by architect Pip Cheshire, who was a frequent visitor to the Angelus Place studio.
Angelus Place 1–4 1997 oil on canvas 350 × 280mm
Springtide 1–3 2002 oil on canvas 405 × 300mm
