We have the pleasure of presenting a long overdue exhibition of new work by Glen Wolfgramm.
Late last year, Wolfgramm was the subject of a survey show at Pataka Art Museum, Porirua. Spanning two decades of practice, A’eva tokotaha he Pasifiki (Solo across the Pacific) included works from private and public collections throughout Aotearoa.
Drawing on his Tongan and New Zealand whakapapa, Wolfgramm’s paintings can be read as multiple habitats, cities, buildings, roads, islands and seas, familiar yet confounding, these are dense paintings that bring a community of ideas together, only to see them fly apart again.
These powerful, tondo-shaped works are dynamic, enigmatic, and pulsating with an energy that is unique to Wolfgramm’s practice. They are very much worth the wait.
Glen Wolfgramm is notoriously reluctant to talk about his work. We congratulate our colleagues at Pataka who not only managed to get him to speak, but to capture it on video.
