New Works
wes fieldhouse

7 - 22 December 2017

Wes Fieldhouse lives and works from his studio on 10 acres of native bush property, overlooking the Whangarei Harbour.

Since the 1980s Fieldhouse has developed his career in visual arts. In 1990 Fieldhouse was invited to exhibit solo in OREXART's inaugural show.

While recovering from a serious motorcycle accident, in 2015, Fieldhouse reflected on his art practice and most recently he has re-engaged in making work for a new exhibition at OREXART.

Fieldhouse believes that work must be critically engaged with its subject. His recent return to landscape painting is an engagement with various concerns he has for local and global environments and particularly, their exploitation - as much as it is with the medium and genre themselves. Making his concerns immediately obvious is not the aim. He prefers to leave space for the viewer to construct their own narrative because he is acutely aware of the infinite readings possible of any image.
