Philippa Blair was born in 1945 in Christchurch and graduated with a Diploma of Fine Arts from Canterbury University in 1967. She received QEII Arts Council grants in 1982, 1984 and 1987. Blair has taught and exhibited nationally and internationally for 45 years and is represented in public and private collections in New Zealand, Australia, USA, Japan, France, Italy, Germany, Malaysia.

Blair works primarily as a painter making expressive, semi-abstract work that reflects urban reality and the natural world with references to high tech and organic imagery, cartographic mapping, music and film. She frequently employs printmaking to pursue more graphic pictorial options.

Philippa Blair spent several years living and working in Los Angeles, California and now resides in New Zealand.
